Billet Grille
To allow and to preventĀ these two functions are what vehicle grilles are made for. The grille refers to the opening at the front fascia of the vehicle that allows air to flow into the radiator and thus help it in cooling the vehicle’s engine and other engine components. The grille, however, must also prevent various harmful elements, most especially road debris, from entering the engine compartment and damaging various engine components. If left open, the grille simply can’t perform this second function. This is the reason why vehicle grilles are covered with grille inserts.
Grille Function
Now, the vehicle grille’s function is not limited to that of allowing air and preventing road debris from entering the vehicle’s engine compartment. Vehicle grilles were also made to serve as distinctive styling elements for vehicles. This is the reason why you’ll often see the vehicle manufacturer’s emblem in a vehicle’s grille insert. Some would even trademark a grille design that in itself can already be used as a distinguishing mark for a particular vehicle brand. Then, for vehicle owners who want to give their vehicle’s appearance a personal touch, custom grille inserts in various stylish designs are widely available. Among the more popular types of custom grille inserts available today are the billet grilles.
Custom Grille
Billet grilles are custom grille inserts that can be used to cover or totally replace the existing factory-installed grille insert of a vehicle. Billet grilles are usually made from aluminum, stainless steel or ABS plastic. Billet grilles are cut into their desired shape from a solid piece of raw material (as opposed to cast accessories that are molded into shape rather than cut). This makes billet grills a lot sturdier than their cast or forged counterparts
.
Are they Hard to Install?
Now, are billet grilles hard to install? Not necessarily. There are two types of billet grilles available in the market today: the bolt over billet grilles and the replacement billet grilles. Bolt over billet grilles are easier to install as they would easily snap on an existing grille insert with the use of hidden bolts, clamps and brackets. Replacement billet grilles, on the other hand, would require you to completely replace the existing grille insert of your car, truck, van or SUV. Some replacement billet grilles would even require some cutting and light drilling. All the added tasks, however, prove themselves worthwhile because properly installed replacement billet grilles would generally look better than bolt over units.
Bolt On
Bolt over or full replacements, billet grilles can easily set the style of your vehicle apart from other vehicles on the road. Just make sure that you get only billet grilles of premium quality so that they would last longer on your vehicle.
