CCHS takes 2nd at Flint Hills Invitational after busy week

The Chase County Lady Bulldogs

are coming off a busy week of play. Thursday, Sept, 6 CCHS hosted West Franklin.

The Lady Bulldogs lost both matches in two games each. The first match started bad for CCHS falling 25-9. The girls rebounded in the second, but fell 25-22.

In the second match of the night the Lady Bulldogs faired better in game one, but lost 25-18. West Franklin had to work for the win in game two but came out on top 27-25.

On Thursday, Sept, 8, Chase County was home again, this time playing the Madison Lady Bulldogs.

CCHS lost the first match by two lose scores. Game on was 25-22 and game two was 25-20.

In the Second match Chase County reversed roles defeating Madison 25-20 in the first game and 25-22 in game two.

After their bye week the Lady Bulldogs ended on a high note at the Flint Hills Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs took 2nd place at the tourny.

Pool play started off rocky, with the girls losing to Flint Hills in three games. CCHS took game one 25-22, but fell in the second and third games 25-23 and 25-22.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Elk Valley in their second pool match 25-10 and 25-19. They rounded out pool play against Word of Life winning 25-6 and 25-7.

In their first match of bracket play CCHS met Cedar Vale/Dexter. They lost their first game 25-17. But, the girls rallied in the games two and three winning 25-20 and a hard fought 31-29.

Chase County met Wichita Homeschool in the finals. They were defeated 25-20 and 25-22. “We never looked qite as good as we did against Cedar Vale/Dexter. However, we went out swinging wich is what is important,” said Head couch LeAnn Hansford.

The Juior Varsity also did a great job, making it out of pool lay undefeated by winning against Flinthills and Elk Valley, but losing in the first bracket round to Remington.

Bulldogs defeat Northern Heights, Improve to 2-0

The Chase County Bulldogs defeated Northern Heights Wildcats Friday, Sept. 9, for their second win, 35-6.

Chase County started the game scoring on their first possession with a 12 yard pass from Tanner Line to Garrett Osgood. The extra point attempt failed.

Later in the first quarter Thomas Kirk sacked the Northern Heights quarterback. Chase County with the ball on the Northern Heights two-yard line, Tanner Line to Aaron Johnson run scored and the two-point conversion was good on a Tanner Line to Izak Butter pass, 14-0

After Northern Heights scored on a short run, a Line to Johnson 12 yard run struck again for a touchdown. The extra point kick by Troy Higgs was good, 21-6.

Thomas Kirk scored again on a five-yard run to make the halftime score 27-6.

The third quarter was scoreless for both teams. After the fourth quarter began, play was suspended due to weather. After a delay of about and hour play resumed with 10:50 left in the fourth quarter.

Northern Heights had possession after the delay, had a good drive going until Izak Butter made an interception, ending Northern Heights scoring opportunity for the Wildcats.

With 2:02 on the clock, a Tanner Line to Aaron Johnson run for 34 yard touchdown. Line to Kirk two-point conversion made the final score 35-6.

Tanner Line went 6 for 8 with one TD for 89 yards for the night.

Aaron Johnson had 23 carries for a total of 178 yards and 3 touchdowns. Thomas Kirk ran the ball 17 times for a total of 80 yards. Hunter Scott had 4 receptions for 60 yards. Garrett Osgood had 2 receptions for 29 yards and a touch down.

Thomas Kirk led the defense with 14 tackles and a quarterback sack for a 9 yard loss. Chris Mushrush had 12 tackles and a sack for the bulldogs.

The bulldogs will be playing again Friday, Sept. 16 at home. Game will start at 7 p.m.

Lady Bulldogs defeat Osage City

Chase County High School volleyball traveled to Osage City last Tuesday, Aug 1, for their first dual of the season.

The varsity girls started the season with a win in both matches against the Indians.

CCHS won the first match in three games, falling 25-21 in the first ad taking the win in dominating fashion, 25-11 and 26-11. In the second match the Lady Bulldogs lost the first game by a close 25-23. They won the second game 25-17. The third game was another tight match-up, but CCHS came out on top 26-24.

Both schools were able to field a C-team and play two matches. CCHS took care of business in the first match, 25-9 and 25-13. thy then won the second match, 25-19 and 25-13.

Chase County will host Madison on Thursday, Sept, 8. Games are set to begin at p.m. at the CCJSHS gymnasium.

The will travel to Flinthills Saturday, Sept, 10, for their second tournament of the ear. Tournament state time is set for 9 a.m. at Flinthills High School.
